or Sunbird House is not just a nice place to stay, it helps to generate revenue for Excel Education Foundation. This local charity provides academic, social, and financial support to students in Kilimanjaro Public Schools who cannot afford the cost of basic education. We welcome volunteers who can assist with lessons, field trips, fund-raising, and administrative work. There are currently 89 children enrolled in Excel Education Foundation, so there is a lot to do!
Please contact us or visit our website if you would like more information about volunteer opportunities with EEF. We do not charge a volunteer fee, but you may incur transportation or supply costs.
The Tanzanian government requires all volunteers to have a Class C Resident/Volunteer Visa, in addition to a tourist visa. The volunteer visa costs USD$250* for up to three months. We will help you obtain this visa when you arrive. Additional documents are required, so please contact us for details. Please note that you are responsible for obtaining your tourist visa, either from the Tanzanian embassy in your home country or upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro airport.
* USD notes must be printed in 2003 or later. Earlier notes will not be accepted anywhere in Tanzania.

What our guests and volunteers say:
"Sunbird House was a very relaxing and comfortable place to stay while in Moshi. The neighborhood is quiet and the staff are so friendly they'll make you feel right at home. The rooms are really spacious... and I loved that I could get Tanzanian home cooked meals for dinner if I didn't feel like going into town." "EEF is the perfect project to volunteer with... I strongly recommend EEF to anyone considering volunteering in Tanzania. You will come away with a new outlook on life, as well as a "new Tanzanian family". Read more
